Stanwell Corporation confirms that Michael O'Rourke is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer, effective 19 October 2026.

Queensland's energy sector is undergoing significant change which requires a fresh approach. As part of this renewal, the Board has formed the view that now is the right time for a leadership transition.

Stanwell Chair Justin Parer acknowledged Michael's significant contribution to the organisation throughout his career and his leadership during an important period in Stanwell's history.

"Michael has played an important role in guiding Stanwell through a period of considerable change, strengthening the business and helping position it for the future," Mr Parer said. "On behalf of the Board, I sincerely thank Michael for his dedication and leadership and extend our full support and best wishes for the future."

The Board has temporarily appointed Chief Operating Officer James Oliver as Acting Chief Executive Officer while the process to appoint a permanent CEO is undertaken. Michael will assist James during the acting arrangements.

Stanwell's operations and strategic priorities remain unchanged, with the organisation continuing to focus on delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for Queensland.

Treasurer and Energy Minister David Janetzki thanked Michael for his longstanding contribution to Queensland's energy sector and public service.

“Michael is a highly regarded figure in the energy sector and has made a significant contribution to Stanwell and the Queensland energy sector through the various leadership roles he has held,” Mr Janetzki said.

“I wish Michael every success in his future endeavours and know he will be missed.”
